The need is growing and so are we!
A heartfelt message from Jim Davis on why your support is needed more than ever!
Sevier County Food Ministries needs your help! We have outgrown our building and need more space to expand in order to offer a vital resource for our growing community and extend the mission that God has assigned us.
When the ministry was founded in March of 1992 at the old Broady Hospital, we served 135 families in the first week. Now situated at the fairgrounds, we serve an average of 1,100 families each week, many more during the holidays and off-season tourism months. The population of Sevier County was 51,000 in 1992, only half of what it is now.
As the ministry serves an ever-increasing and always-critical supplemental food resource for our neighbors in need, we are feeling the squeeze. We are requiring additional space to not only receive, sort, store and distribute food, but to register and ministry privately to neighbors who need counseling and prayer, and to administer the daily operations of our outreach.
That brings us to our thrift store, a powerful resource for not only shoppers seeking a bargain, but for neighbors who are desperate for clothing, small housewares and other general necessities of life. Some possess only the clothes on their back or have had a personal hurdle like a fire. We help them without questions, at no charge. Our thrift store has evolved from a small area called the Hope Room into a thriving ministry. God has provided an army of ladies who lovingly sort, display and sell the merchandise provided by community donations.
The best part: ALL of the sales generated buy more cans of food. It’s a win-win!
The store operates in 2,500 square feet of space in the middle of our building, which was erected in 1998. Since we have little storage, we often pile boxes and bags of off-season donations in our warehouse, which was built in 2012. It is crowded everywhere!
The best way to create more space for our food distribution is to build a simple, functional metal building for our thrift store needs. Our Steering Committee has approved plans for a 3,000 square-foot addition. In order for that building to happen, we need YOU! Our community has always supported our mission. God has been gracious with His plan for this ministry.
We seek your prayers, support and generous donations!
